Storytelling and Gaming 7 - Twine research

To get a better idea of the kind of story I should end up writing, I did some research into other Twine projects to see what was in my realm. But first I watched some tutorials on YouTube on how to work Twine.

I found a really helpful tutorial on YouTube by a channel called DigitalExposureTV who have created step-by-step guides on how to use Twine. They have sections on creating the first few pages and how they link together, how to change the colours and aesthetics of the pages, add images, sound, music etc. They have been really useful in learning how Twine works and have made it very simple for me to begin my own project.
Also, since the focus of this module is on the narrative of the game we are telling, I also watched a few videos from a channel called Voxel Vagrant who has created a series of videos about interactive narrative design and how to use Twine to tell interactive stories. I found them very interesting for getting an insight into how I should design my own story. She discusses that narrative design is when you scope out all of the story beats and flow of the plot that the audience will engage in. She also talks about narrative taking place in 'beats'. So each beat of the narrative will be a particular scene or moment. For example, a beat could be "the hero climbs to the peak of a mountain" but this beat could be a 5 minute scene or a 10 minute scene. It's more about short sentences that will represent a moment in the narrative, and makes for an easy way to break the story up into small chunks. I will use this method when I map out my own game.
